Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)Counseling Psychology SpecializationSchool of PsychologyThe PsyD specialization in counseling psychology prepares learners to pursue diverse career paths within our changing society. Because this specialization is ultimately designed for state licensure eligibility as a counseling psychologist*, it is a very rigorous program that requires course work, residency, and field training experiences. Doctoral graduates typically intend to seek a license to practice professional psychology and must be familiar with the licensure requirements of their state psychology boards. In addition to providing counseling services to individuals and groups, graduates will be prepared to work with nonprofit organizations, to teach at the undergraduate or graduate level, to conduct program evaluations, to offer consulting services, and to provide supervision of other mental health professionals. Year in Residence Requirements: One two-week extended seminar followed by nine weekends in residence. Concludes with a second two-week extended seminar. Field Training Requirements: 1,000 practicum hours and 2,000 pre-doctoral internship hours. Core Courses:
